Understanding the effects of site-scale water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) in the urban water cycle: a review

چکیده

Abstract With city growth, the development of vacant or under-used land parcels is becoming more common compared to past. The current ‘water-sensitive urban design (WSUD)’ approach such will improve resource efficiency, liveability, and amenity cities, especially natural water systems. However, there a need quantify performance site-scale WSUD options, about how these options impact ‘natural’ ‘anthropogenic’ flows in cycle. This study reviewed research applications, summarizing cycle studies from before after development. Key findings (i) include very big margin was quantified by (a) retention (30–100%) (b) portable demand reduction (18–100%) for selected through six studies; (ii) still unclear options’ interaction between each accounts, (iii) clarify option's contribution under specific rainfall scenarios. In summary, this aims review literature on cycle; effects mass balance relevant evaluation application, highlight opportunities future studies.

Development of a confined water sensitive urban design (WSUD) system using engineered soils.

Innovative Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) systems are being investigated at three locations to the north and south of Sydney, Australia. These systems contain porous concrete pipes that are designed so that stormwater exfiltrates through the permeable walls of the pipes into the surrounding substrate media material. The porous pipes and media material treat the passing stormwater. The prim...

Modelling the urban water cycle

Current urban water management practices aim to remove stormwater and wastewater efficiently from urban areas. An alternative approach is to consider stormwater and wastewater as a potential resource substitute for a portion of the water imported via the reticulated supply system. A holistic view of urban water resources provides the framework for the evaluation of the demand for water supply, ...

An Overview of Water Sensitive Urban Design Practices in Australia

Ecologically Sustainable Development in Australia can be described as going beyond the protection of the environment from the impacts of pollution, to protecting and conserving natural resources. In an urban environmental context this means urban development (both greenfield development and urban renewal) that seeks to have no long term effects on various aspects of the environment related to a...

Integrate land and water use planning at the scale of the urban master plan

The survival of cities as living beings and their inhabitants depends on the supply of water. Numerous factors such as population growth, climate, drought, consumption pattern, amount of available water resources and utility network affect the equation of water supply and consumption. What has been less considered in the traditional planning process than ever before is the connection between la...
